No, We are not Single Moms!!!
I don’t know if I’m overly sensitive, but I do know my biggest frustration with people outside the military is the moment they hear my husband is in Iraq they give me this look of horror and compassion and the response “oh so your basically a single mom.”
I am not a single mom, I am very much a married woman. I am proud to be a married woman. If I were single I could choose to be or not to be promiscuous. Of course I still have these options as a married woman, if I didn’t honor my vows but I do honor them.
I can’t just sleep around if I wanted too, my husband didn’t abandon me, this is temporary, We stay in touch. Maybe for a year my husband isn’t around but that doesn’t make me a single mom. single moms dont have the luxury to stay home all day long and play with there children. Single moms often have to slave away to make ends meet. Iam not a single mom.
Why do people stereotype the deployed woman’s husbands as single moms. I assure you this we are not. Yes they are deployed, They are serving our country please understand that. It is hard enough having our husbands away not knowing if at any moment we will be widows please don’t add on to that by expressing we are single moms already in your eyes. If they die, it is only than that we are single moms.
Thanks
